The simple concept of the project was that completely anonymous people decorate a postcard and portray a secret that they had never previously revealed. No restrictions are made on the content of the secret; only that it must be completely truthful and must never have been spoken before. Entries range from admissions of sexual misconduct and criminal activity to confessions of secret desires, embarrassing habits, hopes and dreams.

Basically, the guy who created it, Frank Warren, went into some busy town, (I cant remember the full story so i'm going with what i remember), and handed out postcards with his address written on the back, and a stamp in place. He told them to mail him a secret that they've never told anyone before.

He got quite a few back.

And what he does now, is the same sort of thing, except every sunday, he posts ten new secrets on his postsecret blog

Which ive just realised i should subscribe to which would make it easier.
